1. Ministry of Culture music and opera grants
This is the main national subsidy for music. In 2026 it’s managed by the Directorate-General for Performing Arts and Music, with a budget of €4,507,250. Individuals and legal entities established in the EU or EEA can apply: artists, management and booking agencies, promoters, associations and venues.
Categories in 2026:
- Tours in Spain (up to €65,000).
- Non-profit organisations (up to €75,000).
- Festivals, showcases, competitions, conferences and residencies (up to €80,000; €140,000 for flamenco).
- Opera seasons.
- Composition commissions linked to a premiere (up to €12,000).
- Internationalisation, new in 2026 (up to €65,000 for tours and €80,000 for festivals and conferences).
The grant normally covers up to 65% of the project cost, you must be up to date with the Tax Agency and Social Security, and applications are online only.
2. Girando por Salas
A programme that funds gigs by emerging artists in live music venues across the country. We explain it with deadlines and requirements in Girando por Salas #GPS17: €500 grants, deadlines and how to apply.
3. Fundación SGAE
Fundación SGAE announces grants and incentives for songwriters every year. Highlights in 2026:
- Travel grants for the international promotion of music: to present your music at fairs, festivals or showcases outside Spain. Deadline 27 November 2026, with decisions made in rounds.
- Grants for popular music creation: for composition projects (not record production). In 2026, 163 projects applied and 36 were selected.
- Music creation incentives: commissioned works, premieres and sheet music publishing.
Check the rules of each call: many are aimed at SGAE members.
4. BecasAIE: scholarships for musicians
AIE, the performing artists’ society, offers more than 170 training scholarships every year. For the 2026/27 academic year they include scholarships for intermediate and higher studies, training at non-official schools of the student’s choice in Spain or abroad, scholarships for members over 35 and High Specialisation scholarships at schools such as Berklee, Musikene, ESMUC or LIPA. The deadline was 2 February to 31 March 2026; the next call should open in early 2027.
5. PICE from Acción Cultural Española (AC/E)
The Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture helps artists and professionals take part in programmes and events abroad. The Mobility strand runs in rounds throughout the year. If you’ve been invited to an international festival or showcase, it’s one of the first grants you should look at.
6. Regional and local grants
Spain’s regions and many city councils have their own grants for creation, recording and live music, as well as programmes for young creators. They tend to have less competition than national ones. Check the culture website of your region and your city council.
How to prepare your application for 2027
- Keep your paperwork up to date: tax registration, Tax Agency and Social Security certificates, and a bank account in your name or your company’s.
- Prepare a dossier: bio, links, streaming figures, press, previous gigs and quality photos.
- Budget properly: realistic income and expenses, with invoices you can justify later.
- Explain the project’s cultural interest, not just what you need. It’s one of the highest-scoring criteria.
- Note the dates: most calls repeat every year on similar dates.
- Justify on time: not properly justifying a grant can mean you have to pay it back.
How Diskover helps you get more out of a grant
- Data for your dossier: calls value your track record. With Diskover you receive earnings reports from every platform, which help you prove your project’s reach.
- Cheaper recording: 10% off our recording studios and the film set in Madrid for Unlimited and PRO artists (and free studio hours on the PRO programme).
- A release ready when the money arrives: release on Spotify in less than 24 hours and editorial playlist pitching so the funded project goes further.
- Internationalisation: if you’re awarded a grant to tour abroad, your music will already be on 30+ platforms and we can collect your songwriting royalties in other countries with publishing.
Beyond grants: become sustainable
Subsidies help, but they aren’t recurring income. To make your project sustainable you need to collect all your royalties and grow on the platforms. At Diskover we support you with distribution, editorial pitching, Discovery Mode, publishing and studios in Madrid, and you can start with 3 free songs. See our plans.
