YouTube’s new music subscription service, previously nicknamed ‘YouTube Remix’, has been confirmed and has already launched in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea.
YouTube Music will have a free, ad-supported version and a premium version for $9.99 a month called YouTube Music Premium. Current Google Play Music subscribers will get a YouTube Music Premium membership as part of their current plan and have been assured that “nothing is going to change”.
The service will also launch soon in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, YouTube said.
Elias Roman, Product Manager at YouTube Music, wrote on the YouTube blog: “YouTube Music is a new service that will offer official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio, plus YouTube’s huge catalogue of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you simply can’t find anywhere else.”
Roman added: “YouTube Music’s personalised home screen adapts dynamically to give recommendations based on people’s listening history, where they are and what they are doing. At the airport? We’ll recommend something relaxing before the flight. Heading into the gym? We’ll suggest some beats to get your heart rate going.
